We find our self in the same predicament that most businesses that are encouraged to add a blog to their website, failure to maintain it. Blogs can create great returns to a business but we either take it on our own or get misguided direction, soon to show lack of professionalism and even that the owner is still alive.
Blogs can easily become a negative on your marketing campaign and is very wise to understand how a blog could even be of any importance at all. Most business owners are not expert copyeditors and maintaining a blog may even demand hiring a professional to maintain active content.
First, weigh heavy against on having the blog placed on your website, WordPress and Blogspot are a few that allow you to have an external blog without risking not converting visitors to customers. If you have vast free time and love blogging great put it on your website. Best to use a blog that is external and if the content seems to start growing rust or mold you can remove the link from your website so visitors to the website do not see that the last entry in your blog was 1999.
Second, be careful of the content, write what your customer base would be interested in reading, be careful not to insult, understand your keywords and make sure you use them here and there, If you have the money and the Internet is a useful marketing tool for you, consider hiring a professional.
THIRD, the big money in blogs is not in your own blog but in everyone else’s blogs, YEP! Go to your favorite search engine and type questions about your profession and go to all the blogs and forums you find and comment or reply. Put your two cents in and a link back to your website, even if you can not put a link in you can usually get away with” www.ziponover.com , Local business tools for advertising”. and if the question can be answered on your website you may have a customer. Most of all it is another link that points to your website and most search engines love blogs and forums to help answer questions.
